A execución do mariscal Pardo de Cela símbolo do sometemento da nobreza medieval galega
O proceso do Mariscal Pedro Pardo de Cela foi unha das medidas tomadas polos Reis Católicos para crear novas estruturas de poder e restaurar a fortaleza da nobreza eclesiástica. Pardo de Cela representaba a nobreza que outrora apoiara aos Trastamara e no treito final da Idade Medía pretendía afirmar o seu poder en Galicia. Pardo de Cela estaba casado con Isabel de Castro Osorio, curmá da raíña Isabel, sobriña do bispo de Mondoñedo e herdeira da casa de Lemos. Exemplo da nobreza que empregou a forza para establecer as bases do seu poder, converténdose en encomendeiro do bispado de Mondoñedo, aliñouse contra os irmandiños e logo defendeu a causa de Isabel fronte a Xoana a Beltranexa. A historiografía romántica do primeiro nacionalismo fixo do mariscal un heroe, mártir da nación galega oprimida polo centralismo castelá. Outros historiadores destacaron a súa faciana de malfeitor, señor dos castelos, niños dos cabaleiros violentos, obxecto da ira irmandiña. O rei Enrique IV concederalle importantes privilexios como un xuro sobre a vila de Viveiro, cidade de realengo, na que o mariscal exercerá como alcalde. Finalmente despois de cercalo na fortaleza da Frouxeira, pola tropas de Acuña. Traizoado e tomado preso, foi condenado a morte polo reis católicos e degolado o 17 de decembro de 1483. Conta a lenda que mentres a cabeza do Mariscal rodaba pola praza maior de Mondoñedo, despois do famoso credo, credo, credo, un cóengos de Mondoñedo, por mandato do seu bispo, entretiñan a súa muller (na ponte chamada dende aquela do pasatempo),mentras agardaba oíla campá da catedral tocando a morto, para que non o salvase o indulto rexio. Con independencia da mitificación deste personaxe, a morte de Pardo de Cela, e despois a de Pedro Madruga, facilitaron a política de control centralista e pacificadora do territorio galego dos reis católicos.
